One of our biggest predictions for Google I/O in the next two days, is to see the next version of Android be announced. It’s hard to predict if there will be a new moniker to define what is to come, but we do receive some very interesting hints today of how Google plans to push the bar with this new version.
Recently we learned that was replacing Dalvik with Art as part of the changes, and even though there are a ton of reasons why, one of the biggest ones is to allow 64-bit support to the next version of the OS. At the moment only Apple’s A7 chip supports 64-bit mobile architecture. We’ve obviously seen that this hasn’t really meant any significant change in how iOS operates, but we do expect for Android OEMs to do smarter things with it in the next version of Android.
With rumors of a possible Nexus 8 or Nexus 9 being the first Google product to support 64-bit architecture, it could just be that we’re getting hardware as well.
