ou need to know exactly what you are trying to achieve by tuning your car, otherwise you are likely to make it worse. Tuning only makes sense if you're maxed out or near your level limit, and need to push for these extra 0.1s that are impossible to achieve with stock settings. Otherwise you're better off investing into regular upgrades since the tuning package is extremely expensive.
If you adjust gear ratios properly you can achieve:
- Quicker & easier launch (no need to start in 2nd/3rd)
- Better 1/4 mile times (shorter gears utilizing optimal RPM range)
- Better 1/2 mile times (longer gears allowing higher top speed)
If you do it wrong:
- You ruin your car. Try again or revert to factory settings.
Playing with gear ratios can be fun, but it is not intended as a feature everyone must use. If you're not into it, ignore this option and enjoy the game.
Our advice is to take the cheapest car and see if you can actually improve your times but changing the gear ratios and nitrous duration.
1. Tuning for perfect launch
Upgrading your car dramatically increases its power output and often leads to excessive wheelspin in 1st, 2nd and even 3rd gears. Instead of launching in 3rd, try lowering the final drive and 1st/2nd gear ratios by some 10-20% until your car has very little wheelspin at launch. Keep in mind that if you go too far your car will not have enough power to spin the wheels, resulting in slower acceleration.
2. Tuning for top speed
If your car hits the rev limiter before the finish line, lower the the top gear (4th-7th) ratio in small increments. This will raise your top speed as long as the car has enough power to overcome drag and friction.
3. Adjusting nitrous
Depending on your strategy, you may benfit from increasing N2O duration for smoother delivery (less wheelspin) or decreasing it for quicker acceleration (if you have lots of grip).
